In Pool B Men’s Hockey matches at the Paris 2024 Olympics India beat Australia 3-2 in a thrilling match. Despite being defeated by Belgium in the last match India sprung back and emerged Victorious!
India took an early lead in the first quarter with the man himself Harmanpreet Singh and Abhishek scoring back-to-back two goals (H Singh 12’/ Abhishek 13’). The Australians fought harder in the second quarter, their strong defense made all the efforts from the Indians go down the drain. On top of that Australian midfielder Tom Craig scored a goal 5 minutes before the 2nd quarter ended. As the third quarter began Harmanpreet scored his second goal of the match and India was back in the game again. The last quarter was an intense battle between both teams. Govers Blake similarly scored a goal to his teammate Craig in the 55th minute giving Australia a chance to equal the scoreboard. Australia wasn’t backing down easily and they kept attacking until the last minute unable to find success.
This has become a historical moment for the Indians as the Indian Hockey team has defeated Australia after 52 years in a quadrennial event.
